The look I get when I've surprised her and right before attack mode is initiated. Sophie is one of our smallest kitties, although she just doesn't know it. She's all attitude!
The initial sketch was done in charcoal before pastel pencil was added. I then moved to softer pastels as the work progressed. And I finished by working on edges and atmosphere. With this piece, I concentrated on my mark-making as opposed to blending as I tried to maintain a freshness to the finished painting. I always have to be careful not to overwork my painting.
I used primarily Unison pastels with a little help from my Terry Ludwig and Schmincke pastels.
