Winsome

I used soft pastels to create both paintings. On each I marked directly on the paper with no underpainting. My inspiration was the racing paddock at Keeneland race course. I’m always intrigued by the interaction between jockeys and horses as they prepare to enter the race course. I love to capture the gestural moments with my marks. My landscape painting was inspired by a walk at twilight past an open field. The summer evening was a beautiful back drop as the sun set and a rain storm came up quickly. I got soaked but it was worth it to be able to observe it.
