Prelude to Roses

I love the way that painting helps me appreciate what happens in my garden. I've grown roses for many decades, but it was not until I decided to paint this backyard scene did I appreciate the stunning variety of greens complemented with the warm, subtle shades of burnt sienna of the emerging rose canes. Painted on Art 400 with a hard pastel and alcohol wash underpainting using almost exclusively the Blue Earth Nomad set.
